Watch Battery Month: Supporting Children's Cancer Research Fund
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and we’re proud to be partnering with Children’s Cancer Research Fund. Every dollar from watch battery sales during the month of September will be donated to Children’s Cancer Research Fund. They invest in bold and new ideas to revolutionize the way childhood cancer is treated.
Watch batteries have helped fund important research on more effective treatments for leukemia and brain tumors, the two most common childhood cancers.
The Impact
Since 2018, watch batteries from R.F. Moeller Jeweler have contributed over $29,000 to CCRF to help fund important research on more effective cancer treatments.
Why Children’s Cancer Research Fund?
In 2018, we knew we wanted to partner with a local charity because there are so many incredible non-profit organizations in the Twin Cities. After discussing what kind of charity we would support, we realized that many people are impacted by or know someone whose life has been changed by childhood cancer. Children’s Cancer Research Fund’s main focus is to support the research of bright scientists across the country whose ideas can make the greatest impact for children fighting cancer. They also fund resources and programs that help families who are fighting cancer stay strong, find community, and take care of themselves.
Children’s Cancer Research Fund Childhood Cancer Facts
Every donation to Children’s Cancer Research Fund supports the early stages of childhood cancer research and fills in gaps along the way, when funding from federal or other sources just isn’t available. Your donation helps jumpstart new ideas and makes better treatments and cures possible.
Nearly 15,000 kids in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer this year.
41 kids are diagnosed with cancer every day in the U.S.
1 in 5 kids diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. will not survive.
1 in 285 kids in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 20.
Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among children in the U.S., yet the percentage of federal funding for childhood cancer research remains in the single digits.
CCRF's research funding priorities include: Hard-to-Treat Cancers, Survivorship, and Health Disparities. Did you know:
- There are 100+ subtypes of childhood cancer.
- Of all the drugs used to treat cancer, fewer than 10 were designed specifically for kids.
- 200 cancer drugs are available for adults. About 30 have been later found effective in treating certain childhood cancers.
Survivorship is one of CCRF’s major research funding pillars. Here’s a snapshot why:
- There are now 500,000 childhood cancer survivors living in the U.S.
- 95% of childhood cancer survivors experience at least one significant health problem by age 45 as a result of their treatment.
- By the age of 50, more than 99% of childhood cancer survivors have a chronic health problem, and 95% have experienced a severe or life-threatening condition caused by the toxicity of the treatment that initially saved their life.
Kids fighting cancer deserve better, safer treatments – and this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, R.F. Moeller is partnering with Children’s Cancer Research Fund to make those treatments possible.
